Diagnodent- what is this and how will it help your dental health?

Since even the smallest spot of decay can threaten the entire tooth, finding and filling cavities early is the key to preventing further problems of all kinds. Cavities often hide along fissure lines or inside biting or occlusal surfaces making them difficult to see.

The Diagnodent is a revolutionary new and thorough means for detecting cavities. It allows us to be a great deal more precise during your examination process and treat cavities that may not have been seen during a visual exam.

This technology uses a simple and safe laser diode to check your teeth. It continues around your mouth shining the laser onto every area of the tooth. A computer readout indicates the tooth’s density and if there is an area that needs filling or we need to keep a close eye on. This treatment requires no x-rays and through early detection, can lead to smaller, simpler and shallower fillings, preserving more of your natural tooth.

The WandTM – computerised local anaesthetic delivery system

Your comfort is paramount to the Health First Dentistry team and as such we are committed to providing you with the latest advances in dentistry, this is why we offer The wandTM pain-free anaesthetic.

Comprising of a small hand piece that looks like a pen, The Wand® provides a slow, computer controlled flow of anaesthetic for an improved relaxed appointment.

The source of discomfort for most injections isn’t the needle – it’s the flow of anaesthetic into the gum. The WandTM places a small droplet of anaesthetic prior to an injection and allows for an optimal flow rate every single time, so the injection process is much more comfortable for even the most anxious patient.

Penthrox anaesthetic

Your comfort during every phase of your appointment is paramount to the Health First Dental team. To ensure you are completely relaxed whilst having your treatment, we provide Penthrox sedation.

Penthrox is a self-administered pain relief option which is inhaled through a specially designed inhaler and has been used successfully in dental health care in Australia for many years for the provision of immediate pain relief. It is safe and highly effective in relieving the anxiety some patients experience when it comes to injections and dental procedures. By inhaling Penthrox when required, you are in complete control of your pain relief.

Intra-oral camera

Designed for your complete comfort, this mini handheld camera provides precise imaging for exact diagnosis. This camera enables you to view your teeth on an overhead monitor and allows for contrast adjustment for a clear picture and easy explanation of problem areas.

Digital X-Rays

Digital radiographs (x-rays) utilise a digital sensor to replace films and chemicals in a similar way to digital photography.

There are many benefits to using digital x-rays:

  • Radiation exposure is less for both patient and clinical staff
  • Increased diagnosis allows a much broader range of diagnoses to be made from a single exposure
  • It takes just 20 seconds compared to 5 minutes to process a digital x-ray
  • No toxic chemicals are used, which protects the environment and makes for a safer workplace
